November 20th - International Transgender Day of Remembrance

altMoved by the 1998 murder of Rita Hester, transgender activist Gwendolyn Ann Smith founded a web-based campaign to memorialize transgender men and women who have lost their lives as a result of hate-crimes and transphobia.  Through the years the campaign has evolved from an internet-based movement to a national, then international day of action, commemorated by transgender persons and advocacy organizations around the world with candlelight vigils, marches, and memorial events.
