December 1st - World AIDS Day

Conceived by the World Health Organiztion, World AIDS Day was first celebrated on December 1, 1988, to raise awareness about the AIDS pandemic.  The date is formally recognized by national governments around the world, and world leaders and health officials join organizations and community members in events designed to educate on preventative measures, support those living with the disease, and memorialize those who have lost their lives.  Each year the World AIDS Campaign collaborates with civil society to identify a specific theme which shapes the international events and inspires AIDS advocacy actions throughout the year.
