Sex Worker Association of Jamaica (SWAJ)

Who we are

The Sex Worker Association of Jamaica (SWAJ)  is an organization that started in 2008.  We want to confront the issues facing sex worker population in Jamaica. We work to build the capacity of sex workers and empower them to advocate on their own behalf.

What we do

SWAJ advocates on behalf of male and female sex workers located in Jamaica at three strategic levels, namely:

1. Policy makers:  To reduce stigma and discrimination against sex workers and remove legislation that criminalizes sex work

2. Local leaders:  To motivate communities to take action to deal with stigma, safety, violence, and other issues

3. Media:  To build public awareness and get support from governments and donors

Where we work

Though SWAJ represents sex workers from all over Jamaica, our core activities are concentrated in three main geographic areas: Kingston, Ocho Rios, St. Ann and Montego Bay, St. James.
